A choker necklace featuring a beautifully carved octopus from bone with scattered marble and mocha mint jasper stones representing its den. An adjustable clasp with continuing marble and jasper elements in a chain ends in an antiqued silver-plated pewter clam, a favorite prey animal. A coordinating Octopus’ Garden bracelet (listed separately) carries another clam amidst stones.
Many species of octopus live on the sea floor in dens, either naturally occurring rock crevices or constructed refuges, and often add to their den area with scavenged rocks or other objects. They’re also typically ambush predators that carry their prey back to the safety of their den where various remains of the prey animals tend to build up. The den along with the surrounding objects and remains is colloquially referred to as a garden.
