Tektite is a captivating stone formed during meteor impacts when the surrounding ground is superheated and cools into glassy pebbles. Because of this, its composition is highly variable – reflecting the immediate environment around the impact. Like lava rock, it cools so quickly that the individual minerals do not have time to crystallize out of the mix.
