Description

A beautifully simplistic Orthoceras lariat necklace. This fossil is an especially lovely specimen and is highlighted with a simple wire wrap and chain of silver plate and a brushed, antiqued silver plate circle.

This captivating fossil dates to around 450 million years ago. Orthoceras is an extinct branch of straight-shelled nautiloids, which are cephalopods along with octopuses, squids, and cuttlefish. There are living examples of nautiloids with curved shells in the tropics. You may have seen them in nature documentaries: they’re the adorable little guys with big clunky shells that swim up coral reef atolls at night, bumping into nearly everything on the way.
